Gavi Torres-Olivares (Guitar)

Guitar, Music Composition/Theory

Growing up in Denver, Gavi Torres-Olivares (Gah-vee) or Mr. G, started playing guitar at the age of 13 and started gigging live at 14. After quickly learning that this was a passion, he continually pursued music throughout his developmental years, attending school at Denver School of the Arts for guitar in high school, and then at University of Colorado Denver for music performance and business with a focus in guitar. He is influenced by and at some point has played the music that he loves including but not limited to, Rock, Jazz, Country, Funk, Blues, Metal, Classical, Bluegrass, Hip-hop and Pop. As a result of this wide range of styles, he has learned about the importance of versatility and has always loved to play and learn from all genres of music. Some of his biggest influences range from rock guitar players like Eddie Van Halen, Joe Satriani, Joe Walsh, Alex Lifeson, John Petrucci, Jason Becker and Yngwie Malmsteen, Blues players like Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, John Mayer, Joe Bonomassa, Eric Gales, and Josh Smith, Jazz Players Like Pat Martino, Wes Montgomery, Kurt Rosenwinkle, Pat Metheny, and Julian Lage,  As well as composers and artists who play other instruments, such as John Coltrane, Frederic Chopin, Miles Davis, Maurice White, Sting, Victor Wooten and Neil Peart.

Throughout the years, Gavi has professionally involved himself in everything from playing with original bands on tour and solo gigs for private events to cover bands for hire, musical theatre performances and studio work. All the while, Gavi has been teaching since he graduated from high school. From young burgeoning musicians to seasoned veterans, Gavi has helped many different ages of people achieve their musical goals. He loves to work with casual musicians who are maybe just trying to learn a few things here and there, as well as extremely strict professional gigging artists/or college students who need to make sure that they can play a certain passage by a deadline. Gavi is also very well versed in music theory and composition and can help with any problems that songwriters encounter with chord creativity, melodies, melodic structure, song form, or maybe just help with coming up with that “catchy” riff that is desired. Maybe you need help with a music theory test? Maybe you need to compose a melody for a school project? Maybe you wanna learn the newest, sweetest, tastiest guitar riff that your favorite artist just released? Gavi can help with that.
